Do I need to register with CQC?
You need to register with CQC if you intend to carry on one or more regulated activities in England and no exemption applies. Whether registration is required depends on the services you provide, who provides them and how your organisation is structured. Which CQC regulated activities do I need to register for?
The regulated activities you need depend on the services your organisation intends to provide. These may include Treatment of disease, disorder or injury, Diagnostic and screening procedures, Personal care, Surgical procedures and other activities regulated by CQC. Choosing the correct regulated activities is an important part of the application because your Statement of Purpose, policies and supporting evidence should be consistent with them.

What documents do I need for a CQC registration application?
New providers are required to submit supporting documentation alongside their application. This can include a Statement of Purpose and policies covering areas such as governance, safeguarding, medicines management, infection prevention and control, recruitment, complaints and consent. Additional documents may be required depending on the type of service, regulated activities, provider structure and premises.

Do I need a Registered Manager?
Many providers are required to have a Registered Manager, although there are circumstances where one may not be required. This depends on factors including the provider's legal structure and the regulated activities being carried on. Where a Registered Manager is required, their application will normally need to be submitted alongside the provider application.

What is the difference between a Registered Manager and a Nominated Individual?
A Registered Manager is registered with CQC to manage the regulated activity at the service. A Nominated Individual is required where the provider is an organisation and acts as the main point of contact between the organisation and CQC in relation to the regulated activities. The roles have different responsibilities and CQC will consider the suitability of the individuals proposed for them.

What is a CQC Fit Person Interview?
As part of the registration process, CQC may assess the fitness and suitability of individuals involved in running the service. This can include questions about the proposed service, relevant regulations, safeguarding, governance, risk management, staffing and how safe and effective care will be maintained. My registration support can include preparation sessions and mock interviews to help you understand the process and demonstrate your knowledge of the service.

How long does CQC registration take?
There is no guaranteed timescale for CQC registration. The length of the process can depend on the type and complexity of the service, whether the application is complete, whether CQC requires additional information and the assessment activity required. Submitting a complete, accurate and consistent application can help avoid unnecessary delays, but the final timescale is determined by CQC.

Can I start providing regulated services while my CQC application is being processed?
You must not carry on a regulated activity that requires CQC registration until the appropriate registration has been granted. Carrying on a regulated activity without the required registration can be a criminal offence. This makes it important to consider CQC registration early when planning a new service or business.

Can CQC reject my application?
Yes. CQC can reject an application that does not meet its application requirements, for example where required information or supporting documentation is incomplete or incorrect. Following assessment, CQC can also propose to refuse registration if it is not satisfied that the relevant requirements for registration are met. Good preparation cannot guarantee registration, but it can reduce avoidable problems and help ensure your application accurately reflects the service you intend to provide.

Can you guarantee my CQC registration will be approved?
No. Only CQC can decide whether to grant registration, and no consultant can guarantee that an application will be successful. My role is to help you prepare a complete and accurate application, identify potential compliance gaps, develop appropriate supporting evidence and prepare you for CQC's assessment process.

Can you help if I have already started my CQC application?
Yes. If you have already started your application, I can review the work completed so far, identify gaps or inconsistencies and provide support with the remaining application, supporting documents and preparation.

Can you help if CQC has returned or queried my application?
Yes. I can review the issues raised by CQC and help you understand what needs to be addressed. The appropriate support will depend on whether CQC has returned the application during initial checks, requested further information or raised concerns during its assessment.

Do you provide policies as part of CQC registration support?
Yes. Depending on the package selected, I can develop the policies and procedures required to support your application. These are tailored to your organisation and proposed service rather than simply providing a generic bundle of documents. Your policies should be consistent with your Statement of Purpose, regulated activities and the way your service will actually operate.

What happens after I submit my CQC application?
CQC will carry out checks on the application and supporting information before progressing its assessment. Depending on your application, CQC may request further information or carry out assessment activity such as interviews, discussions or a site visit. My registration support can include preparation for these stages so that you are ready to explain how your proposed service will operate and meet the relevant regulatory requirements.
